The justice system should treat people of all ages equally, though many people 65 and older feel they are regarded differently strictly because of their age. That is regrettable, as ageism in any form is wrong when it comes to receiving justice in Canada.
Age is not necessarily related to the ability to adapt to modern technology. Many people over 65 are active on social media. They are also comfortable with Zoom or other forms of virtual communication. There is a good chance that they have had online medical appointments during the pandemic.
One of the things that has to be determined when representing a senior client is if an online meeting is appropriate. Some clients – of all ages – come into their office for discovery. Everyone else is on Zoom, but sitting across the desk from legal counsel can take some stress away from the client and allow them to relax and focus on questions and answers. To read more, click here.
