McLeish Orlando releases Accident Benefits Guide

Litigators and paralegals who need information on Ontario’s complex accident benefits system can now reference a practical guide co-authored by three leading critical injury lawyers at McLeish Orlando LLP, says firm partner, John McLeish.

Accident Benefits Guide, written by McLeish, Dale Orlando, and Patrick Brown, all partners of the Toronto firm, was published by LexisNexis in January.

“It’s a practical guide, a how-to book,” says McLeish. “It explains how to proceed with a claim for accident benefits, from the initial application to best practices.”

Useful forms

Accident Benefits Guide includes useful forms and details around changes to Ontario legislation, including:

  • Narrowing of the definition of “catastrophic impairment”
  • The further “incurred expense” definition change
  • The accident benefits dispute interest rate reduction

“This book is useful to everyone from the neophyte to the seasoned veteran,” McLeish says.

The Licence Appeal Tribunal now hears all accident benefits disputes in Ontario as of April 1, as the provincial government shifted dispute resolution responsibilities from the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.
