McLeish, Brown to speak at witness conference

Toronto critical injury lawyers John McLeishPatrick Brown, Rikin Morzaria and Alison Burrison are scheduled to participate in an upcoming event targeting experts, health care professionals and those who may be called upon to testify in cases in their respective fields.

The lawyers, partners with McLeish Orlando LLP, will speak on a variety of topics at the one-day conference, called Practical Strategies for Experts: The Shifting Landscape. It takes place Oct. 23 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at The Carlu in Toronto.

McLeish Orlando is a sponsor of the event which aims to help delegates develop and enhance techniques for providing expert testimony; improve confidence in court; educate on the technical requirements of the law; provide insight on how to handle different counsel; provide strategies for court preparation; and educate on how to become a more effective witness.

McLeish is scheduled to co-chair the event, and also appear at an afternoon Ask the Experts panel.

In a morning session, Morzaria will discuss admissibility of opinions during his presentation Evidence of Treating Professionals: The Implications of Westerhoff. Burrison is slated to speak on the topic Numbers Don’t Lie (Do They?) – taking the mystery out of math – while Brown is participating in a mock trial dealing with testing expert testimony.

Registration fees for the event are being donated to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation and the Hospital for Sick Children.
