Conference looks to raise awareness of traumatic brain injuries

Toronto critical injury lawyer John McLeish will be part of a one-day conference on the subject of traumatic brain injuries at Innovation and TBI: From Research to Clinical Practice, presented by the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre today.

The event, held in conjunction with Brain Injury Awareness Month, is sponsored by McLeish Orlando LLP and takes place at the Carlu in Toronto at College Street and Yonge Street. Registration is $175, which is entirely donated to the Sunnybrook Traumatic Brain Injury Program.

McLeish, a partner with McLeish Orlando, is scheduled to act as a moderator at a morning panel on the topic The Brain-Injured Patient: Cognitively Intact, Behaviorally Challenged.

Provide guidelines

The event looks to increase awareness and understanding of mild and moderate TBI and to provide guidelines with respect to assessment, diagnosis and treatment.

The program will be of interest to health-care professionals, patients and their families and will highlight the nature and impact of mild and moderate TBI, and the important interplay between emotional, cognitive, and physical symptoms.

The panel discussion will include the range of neurobehavioural sequelae following such injuries, including an update on the long-term consequences of repetitive trauma.

There will be lectures and interactive discussion sessions throughout the day.
