Clients pay the price when lawyers spread too thin

Running an efficient and effective office includes limiting the number of cases individual lawyers take on so that every client gets the attention they deserve, Toronto critical injury lawyer John McLeish says in Lawyers Weekly.

McLeish, a partner with McLeish Orlando LLP, says a team is assigned to every client file at the firm, including a partner, an associate lawyer, a law clerk, an accident benefit specialist and a legal assistant.

A “bring forward” system at the firm means every file is then reviewed by the team every 30 days on average, the Lawyers Weekly article says.

“The fact that our team members know a file review meeting is coming up in a month makes them very diligent in getting their to-do’s done because they know they have to answer to the senior person on the file,” McLeish says in the article, which discusses the balance between the responsibilities of running a small law firm and managing clients.
