heather vaughan

Heather Vaughan, a partner with the Toronto law firm Benson Percival Brown LLP, focuses on insurance litigation.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies from York University in 1996 before earning her Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1999. Ms. Vaughan was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001.

With a practice that focuses on insurance law and litigation, Heather handles the defence of motor vehicle liability matters ranging from maintaining threshold defence positions to managing catastrophic personal injury claims. 

She assists with claims against daycare and long-term-care facilities and private schools, as well as professionals such as teachers, physiotherapists, nurses, and psychotherapists. 

Heather defends and prosecutes negligence claims by and against builders, suppliers, and installers involved in the construction of residential and commercial projects. 

Her administrative law practice includes advocacy before tribunals such as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Human Rights Tribunal, as well as before coroner’s inquests.

In addition to her law practice, Heather acts as tribunal counsel to the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario and is vice-chair of the steering committee to establish the Canadian Defence Lawyers’ National Women’s Caucus.

She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the Advocates’ Society, the Canadian Bar Association, Canadian Defence Lawyers, Women’s Law Association of Ontario, The Voice of the Defense Bar, and the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators.
