Whether or not a job candidate fits with the culture of a workplace is one of the most important parts of the hiring process, Toronto critical injury lawyer John McLeish says in Lawyers Weekly.
In an article discussing how to create a winning team, McLeish, a partner with McLeish Orlando LLP, says the firm starts with the basics and then moves to a more detailed analysis of a prospective employee.
When a shortlist of candidates has been identified, the firm will host an event to see how each individual performs in a social situation, the report says.
Then all the lawyers come back to the office that evening or the next morning and try to decide unanimously who to hire, McLeish says in Lawyers Weekly.
Another part of the firm’s final decision comes down to a simple question – whether each partner would enjoy having lunch with the candidate on a regular basis.
“If the person doesn’t fit with our culture, I don’t think they’ll be happy at our firm and I don’t think we’ll be happy with them. Fit is the No. 1 criteria for us,” McLeish says in the article.
