Superior Court Associate Chief Justice Frank Marrocco is rumoured to be in the running to replace former Ontario chief justice Warren Winkler, Toronto critical injury lawyer John McLeish tells Law Times.
In terms of challenges facing the chief justice, McLeish, partner with McLeish Orlando LLP, notes that delays in the civil justice system have reached unacceptable levels. Marrocco and Superior Court Justice Geoffrey Morawetz have been appointed to come up with solutions to growing civil litigation delays, says the article.
“Both Justice Marrocco and Justice Morawetz are very practical guys who get it,” McLeish says in Law Times. They know what the problems are and they are looking for ways to fix the problems, and the fix does not rest on their shoulders alone, he says. “They’re going to need help from the profession.”
The job of associate chief justice is “a very challenging job for anybody. It does take someone with very strong managerial, administrative, and people skills. It has to be someone who gets it,” and Justice Marrocco is such a person, he adds.
